Tour the most modern area of the city and marvel at the city’s skyscrapers along the Cartagena Bay in the area of Bocagrande. Famous for a vibrant nightlife and beaches, you’ll see a different side to Cartagena – mainly known for its colonial history. Head to the La Manga, connected to Cartagena via bridges, and admire the republican architecture in an area where the city’s rich and famous live. Overlooking La Manga you’ll see the imposing La Popa Convent, perched on the highest hill of Cartagena 150metres up. Once you reach the top, you’ll be treated to unbeatable panoramic views stretching over the city and discover inside the convent before moving on to the fortress of San Felipe de Barajas. Also located atop a hill and built during the colonial era, it is one of the greatest fortresses built by the Spanish. Its strategic and impenetrable walls were never defeated, and even today it commands the city skyline. Next on the tour, we head back into the historic city centre, where before you stroll through its picturesque streets and squares, we head to the Bovedas. Attached to the city walls, the Bovedas dungeon cells and storage vaults now serve to sell local Caribbean handicrafts, where you can easily pick up a souvenir to remember your colourful time in this colourful city.
