Cultural day tour of Beijing

From the treasures of the Capital Museum to the simple daily lives of local people living in the traditional Hutong alleys, you’ll see many sides to Beijing, ending this day of exploration with panoramic views of the city from the top of the 800-year-old Drum Tower. In the slick modern Capital Museum, there is a wealth of incredible objects waiting to be discovered. From Buddhist sculptures, exquisitely carved jades, and ancient bronzes through to folk textiles and other artefacts of daily life, there's so much to learn about Chinese culture all under one roof. Travel back in time as you admire the large collection of ancient porcelain, calligraphy and paintings both from China and from other Asian cultures, before heading to a local restaurant to enjoy a traditional Chinese lunch. After lunch, visit Prince Gong’s Mansion, the largest and best preserved of the Qing Dynasty royal mansions, with its peaceful lake setting and many interesting buildings to explore. Hop into a traditional rickshaw, decorated with traditional red and gold drapery and auspicious ideograms, and explore the narrow old streets of Beijing where local life unfolds at a leisurely pace. Enjoy a unique opportunity to visit the home of a local family, and learn about the traditional lifestyle of the people who live in the old hutongs, where narrow alleyways and courtyards wait to be explored. Finally leave the bustling city behind, and climb to the top of the Drum Tower for a panoramic view of the city. Once used to house the drums and bells that told the city the time, the Drum Tower has become one of the symbols of the ancient and enigmatic city of Beijing.
