The Pipeline Road was the first paved road in the interior of Panama, dating to 1915 when it was a plantation road that led to a banana and cocoa farm managed by the American government. Nowadays you can still see echoes of the past farming in this area, with cacao trees, rubber trees and coffee plants mingling with the native rainforest species.
