Full day tour of the wine roads of Corinthia

Raise a glass to Greece, one of the oldest wine-producing regions in the world, with this day trip to Corinth. Today you’ll learn about the world-famous Agiorgitiko grape, the Greek favourite sometimes dubbed 'the Blood of Hercules' for its strength, vigour and ruby colour. Your first stop is Nemea where these grapes thrive in the dry soil and hot sun, along with olives, Greece’s other favourite fruit. Visit two wineries to taste the robust and fruity Agiorgitiko, and other varieties such as Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Syrah. Then you’ll explore the role of wine through Greek history with a visit to the Archaeological Museum of Nemea. The sanctuary of Zeus here was one of the four major Panhellenic sanctuaries. According to legend, it might even have been Hercules himself who founded the temple, to thank Zeus for assuring his victory against the Nemean lion. Stand in the peaceful stadium of Nemea, and admire the distant mountains before departing towards Nafplio. On arrival at Nafplio, stroll through this historic city, admiring the beautiful neoclassical buildings and statues. Enjoy lunch at a local restaurant in Nafplio and then visit the Karonis Wine Shop, founded in 1882, to pick up a souvenir. Choose from among 500 young Greek wines and 200 foreign ones, as well as many vintage Greek labels dating from 1990 and foreign labels from 1987.
