Passeio ao Vale Sagrado dos Incas saindo de Cusco

Discover the Sacred Valley of the Incas and visit some of the sites most associated with this short-lived and mysterious civilisation. The Sacred Valley is really that of the River Urubamba to the north of Cuzco and features stunning Andean landscapes resplendent with fauna and flora. Among the locations visited are the Awanakancha camelid refuge, the hamlet of Pisac and the ancient Inca ruins of Ollantaytambo.

Head from Cuzco to the Sacred Valley, which over thousands of years has been carved into the Andean foothills by the rapids of the River Urubamba. Arrive at the Awanakancha refuge and meet some of the friendly camelids, the family that encompasses llamas, alpacas and vicuñas, which are all native to this part of the world. Learn all about these friendly and curious domesticated animals and their many uses for humans, especially their fibres, which are the basis of many traditional garments in Peru.

Proceed to picturesque Pisac, which is located right on the banks of the Urubamba, where you will have the opportunity to bargain with vendors at the local handicrafts market and see the fruits of woven alpaca and llama fibres. Pisac is where, according to Inca legend, a princess turned to stone.

Enjoy lunch at a pleasant hostelry in the countryside and continue to the ruins of the hilldisde Inca fortress of Ollantaytambo, which was built by Inca Emperor Pachacuti – who also built Machu Picchu – not long before the Spaniards were to conquer the empire.
