Sanguinho walking tour

Don your hiking boots and gear up as you join us on a guided walking tour in the lush tropical landscape of the Azores Islands of Portugal. Take in all the magnificent sights on this day long excursion on the southeastern part of the island in the region of Faial da Terra, visiting the traditional village of Sanguinho along the way. As you begin your journey on foot, you'll be enchanted by the exotic and abundant vegetation which lines the trail. For the avian lovers in the group, keep your eyes peeled to catch a glimpse of some of the many bird species of the islands: the chaffinch, buzzard, native canary, blackbird, and the blackcap among them. Along the route, we'll visit the now abandoned village of Sanguinho. With about 20 uninhabited houses remaining, imagine the past when it was a village populated by the affluent, providing them a rich and fertile soil, perfect for growing crop and raising livestock. The location also provided refuge from the flooding river of Faial da Terra. A remarkable glimpse of days gone by. Continuing on, you'll make your way to the beautifully cascading waterfall of Salto do Prego, where you can refresh yourself with a quick swim and enjoy a picnic lunch. Be sure to grab your binoculars, for a close up view of the pristine nature, and your camera to capture fond memories of your trek through magnificent scenery and intriguing history on your walking tour of the Azores.
